Second Autumn Riddle: solution
Let's reveal the solution of the second Autumn Riddle. The proposed quiz was:
After printing the picture, carefully cut the six pieces out, and then reassemble them into the best possible picture of a horse!
So, what is the solution?
It is a famous puzzle, the Pony puzzle, created by Sam Loyd (1841-1911). The six black pieces are only a trick and a trap. As a matter of fact, the pieces must be placed in order to form a white horse inside, as the picture shows.
If you want to have an idea of Loyd's huge production, you can consult the Cyclopedia of 5000 Puzzles, published by his son in 1914 and available free in the Internet in its unabridged version.
